mushabe3

It is 1147 hours and we are having breakfast after the first session of the CMS Africa 2015 Summit. We are at the Catholic East African University, Karen, Nairobi. Dickson Mushabe is to present next about his journey as the CEO of Hostalite. We rest the works of the cup and its saucer to warm up the red-fold of the auditorium chairs. “I used to move a lot. I used to move to offices; marketing my company. So I don’t like to introduce myself as the CEO.” He says after running a few slides of his introduction. “I want to take you through my success story.” The break intervals of his story are told with rewards. He has a number of pens and Hostalite goodies…

Hostalite’s Dickson Mushabe is “not sorry for his mistakes

dickson-mushabe2

Dickson Mushabe the founder of Hostalite is not sorry for his mistakes. In fact he even wrote a book about how he’s not sorry and it’s been selling like hot cake! You need to read the book “I’m not sorry for my mistaeks” to understand why he’s taking such an unapologetic stance! I dropped by Dickson’s office in Kampala’s Silicon Valley (read Kanjokya Street) and we had a chat about his journey at Hostalite and how he has managed to grow it from the time when he was the only employee, acting as Managing Director, Accountant, Receptionist and Cleaner,  to the industry leader that it is now. Starting Hostalite six years ago Six years ago, Dickson Mushabe started a web design and hosting company after being frustrated…

I am sure most of us are familiar with the The Parable of the Talents.

pc

Having a talent is one thing, knowing that you have it is another thing. And then using it is another whole story. A few months ago, Marcus Kiryowa posted an art piece he had made out wood, it was a portrait. When I saw the piece, I saw rare talent in Marcus, I immediately saw that this talent would make him a billionaire. This reminded of football players who earn millions of dollars, I have never heard anyone ask about their education, the biggest question is about their age, talent overshadows everything in the football world. You don’t have to be friends with then coach or club manager to play in the first 11, you will automatically be in as long as you can score…

Dickson Talks about Email Signatures

dm

I was invited to speak to members of an Investment Club; ambitious and self accomplished individuals, bankers, architects, doctors, financiers, businessmen…All of who studied together at one point either at Budo or Kampala Parents School, as they describe themselves. I talked about my business journey at ‪#‎Hostalite‬ and and I must say that we all enjoyed the evening as a one hour meeting turned into 3 hrs of constructive engagement. We discussed many startup issues as I was taking them through my experience and why I think businesses fail at a very early stage especially in Uganda. I remember hinting on one item that may be the most overlooked, under-appreciated and yet a cost-effective marketing tool at any company’s disposal. And i feel compelled to…

#Career: Choosing the right course at secondary or University

http://dicksonmushabe.com/

Qn. Do you have the end in Mind? Three students of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa joined me at my table while having lunch at the recently concluded summit in Nairobi. As usual I welcomed them and quickly engaged them. I wanted to know their plans for the present and definitely the future for i recall since primary through secondary, our teachers used to tell us that we are the leaders of tomorrow ( don’t kbow if some of us are already in the tomorrow they referred to) You may ask why I was concerned about the future of ‘strangers’ ( its even biblical -read the story of the Good Samaritan) Long story short. The gentlemen are, Anthony Toritich and Evanson Nduru , both…

I feel like sharing this , may be I would bless one or two. Or even save a crumbling family

http://dicksonmushabe.com/

A few years ago, In my search for money and businesses, I had reached a point where I even had no time for lunch, family, sleep….. I had gotten a habit of going home late until I realised that the money I was looking for wouldn’t provide the love and affection to my wife, it would not stand in for me as a father figure for the children, it would not raise my children the way ordered by the creator. I had become too busy even for my own self…. Yes, I would pray do all the holy things but I was often reminded that my wife and kids don’t need my ‪#‎Presents‬ they need my ‪#‎Presence‬. What did I do.. I made a personal…
