I want to know why you didn’t shout at me or even abuse me?

Labor-Day-Gasoline-Prices

I went to fuel my car this afternoon, gave instructions the pump attendant on the amout of fuel i wanted gave her the money, and waited for my balance. A minute later, she came trembling ” Ssebo Nsonyiwa, ntaddemu Petrol mukiffo kya Diesel” Translated as ” I am so sorry sir, forgive me, I have put petrol instead of Diesel” 🙆 I immediately stopped the engine, took a deep breath and got out of my car, she kept looking at me as if expecting certain words from me.. I calmly asked her what the solution would be and she told me it would take 30 min to empty the Engine, blow it and put the right fuel back. And again I told her, to proceed…

Let’s talk about family

I feel like sharing this , may be I would bless one or two. Or even save a crumbling family. A few years ago, In my search for money and businesses, I had reached a point where I even had no time for lunch, family, sleep….. I had gotten a habit of going home late until I realised that the money I was looking for wouldn’t provide the love and affection to my wife, it would not stand in for me as a father figure for the children, it would not raise my children the way ordered by the creator. I had become too busy even for my own self…. Yes, I would pray do all the holy things but I was often reminded that…

I was invited to speak to Kyambogo University Computer Science Students at a hand over ceremony. Every time I talk to Students, my mind to races to my similar experiences while I was at University and shortly after I had left. I specifically talked about personal branding and how it can make or break you. I have personally met some programmers with uncombed hair, Un ironed shirts, torn collars but with very brilliant and nice innovations. This might make them feel a GEEKY, look busy trying to make us understand that they spent the whole night coding, Unfortunately, they forget that the human mind of their prospective client needs to get convinced with the first impression. I told them how It’s very easy for a…

I had an opportunity of speaking at a conference organized by Sozo Global Ministries, where the participants were, a good number of secondary schools around kampala in addition to business persons. What makes this event so unique is that we had a session of praise and worship and I therefore started my speech in spiritual realm with a prayer. Fast Forward, My topic of discussion was ‘How to Start Small” and among the things I talked about was, making your client your next sales person through referral ,I gave an example of how Sanyu FM would give me a contract for instance to provide live Audio streaming after learning from Power FM that I did a great job. Today, I am going to talk about business expansion and how it has helped me at Hostalite. Let’s consider a common scenario , when you plan to make a new purchase, there are many things you will consider before making a decision and handing over your money. These considerations might include factors like quality, price, and/or popularity– but inevitably one of the most important things that you’ll think about is convenience and ease of use. Convenience and usability depend largely on one core principle – how well will your new purchase integrate with your life and the products you already own and use. If you’re looking to buy a new mobile phone for example, you’ll want to know how quickly and easily you can get…

I was at function recently and listened to only Ugandan music and my mind quickly went to some time in the late 90’s when we would listen to only Congolese music at parties. What does this mean: The local musicians innovated and started producing music that became acceptable to Ugandan market. The same revolution is steadily being embraced in the I.C.T sector and I am sure you have used or seen local solutions and mobile applications on the market. In the same spirit of empowering our Local Innovators, 12 Universities are warming up for a Challenge/ Hackathon to develop a Health App. It’s our duty to: 1. Support 2. Shape 3. Encourage 4. Help the young Innovators reach their potential. I am glad to be…

Ugandans should embrace E-Commerce

hostalitej

By Silvia Nyambura Growing internet penetration, spread of mobile technology and improvement of payment and delivery infrastructure in Africa are factors that are boosting E-Commerce on the continent. Today, transactions are fast moving from traditional wallet to mobile phones, from laptops to tablets and so on. With a fast growing middle class across the continent, there is need to provide convenience, better prices and quality products and services. Of the active internet users in some markets in Africa (those who access the internet at least once a week), 54% shop online in South Africa, 36% in Egypt while Nigeria and Kenya are behind them in 3rd and 4th places respectively. Uganda is 9th. The biggest challenge with E-Commerce however is on delivery and mode of…
