Good day to you Research shows that over 400,000 young people enter the job market annually, for a mere 9,000 new jobs each year in Uganda. These youths have no choice but to survive by starting businesses most of which are prone to fail because of unforeseen mistakes. Uganda was recognized as the most entrepreneurial country in the world, according to research by Approved Index U.K 2015, but there are high failure rates, with the majority of businesses failing to make it through their first year of operation while a handful of them make it to the third year. The only systematic way to avert this is by empowering these budding entrepreneurs with practical and relevant techniques on how to avoid or stop these common…

I pledge to help her lose our weight until I get my sweet sixteen back

dft

We all know for a fact that women gain a lot of weight during pregnancy. It’s however a common practice for us (husbands/men) to blame our wives over the weight forgetting that it’s actually because of us that they gained it. We even start looking at the young girls in our offices and neighbourhood to start comparing with our wives, this is so unfair. We forget that our wives were like them or even hotter before we started demanding for babies. I don’t want to be like other men, I am called Mushabe Dickson and I take responsibility for this weight that my wife gained during our pregnancy. It’s not her weight anymore, it’s our weight. She gained the weight over 9 months and i…

The Northern Corridor Internet for All (NC-IfA) project’s

Praise the Lord brethren

Praise the Lord brethren, I was invited for a meeting last week by Badru Ntege of NFT Consult, where i received great news that I am among the three Ugandans who have been selected by the World Economic Forum to join the Northern Corridor Internet for All Project working group. “Internet for All” is a project of the World Economic Forum and its partner organizations to develop new scalable and replicable on-the-ground models of public private collaboration to accelerate internet access and adoption globally, and to provide a platform to socialize these models. Currently, 4 billion people or over 55% of the world’s population still do not access the Internet. The Northern Corridor Internet for All (NC-IfA) project’s goal is to connect 25 million new…

#Career: Choosing the right course at secondary or University

Aliguma Edison

#Career: Choosing the right course at secondary or University Qn. Do you have the end in Mind? Three students of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa joined me at my table while having lunch at the recently concluded summit in Nairobi. As usual I welcomed them and quickly engaged them. I wanted to know their plans for the present and definitely the future for i recall since primary through secondary, our teachers used to tell us that we are the leaders of tomorrow ( don’t kbow if some of us are already in the tomorrow they referred to) You may ask why I was concerned about the future of ‘strangers’ ( its even biblical -read the story of the Good Samaritan) Long story short. The…

C.E.O things stop at office. ..at home iam supposed to be her friend

Untitled-1

C.E.O things stop at office. ..at home iam supposed to be her friend, confidant, I must create an environment where she is free to share anything with me. She must know that I understand her, I must create time for her/them. Even when she questions why I have a #baldhead..I give her the liberty to try putting some hair on my head… There is no better connection. #Lesson Many children struggle or have even landed into problems in a bid to look for father figures else where just because we as parents/ fathers have become toooooooo busy.

Silence can be misunderstood but not misquoted

It was clocking 9 am in the morning when all hell broke loose. Traffic jam was building up along Ntinda Trading Centre towards the main junction facing the former Crane Bank (Now DFCU). There was a lady in the adjacent lane (wrongly created) that seemed to be on a hurry maybe for a CHOGM Summit of sorts. In a bid to beat the jam, she went on squeezing her car in every little space she caught sight of. In the process, she hit her car against the guard of mine breaking her side mirror and scratching her car. All this happened at a distant watch of a traffic officer. With all the furry there was, the lady stormed out hurling insults at me with such…

Today i remembered one very important day in my business life and i felt i should share the experience

1797592_10205851812556779_3577150510506467858_n

I always use Saturday afternoons to reflect on my life, Business A.O.B, I call it “NRS- Nothing Really Serious” because i don’t expect action points as i allow my mind to meander through various things. Today i remembered one very important day in my business life and i felt i should share the experience. I used to own a Video Library in Wandegeya 6 years ago (How it was mismanaged later by the very person i entrusted to run it is a story for another day) I remember we hadn’t made money one day, i was supposed to go back to sleep in my rented room in Rubaga. I hadn’t had supper, transport from wandegeya to Rubaga was 1,500/= UGX. Well the good/bad news is…

Breakthrough has a sound.

15823252_10211461690200214_6900752628230524297_n

Breakthrough has a sound. I am not a frequent traveler. For the few times I have traveled, It has been the economy class just like any other hustler saving on a trip. I had an opportunity of representing Uganda at the China International Fair for Trade and services ( CIFTIS), Beijing 2016. On my way back while checking in at Abu Dhabi International Airport, I was asked to present my travel documents as the procedure normally is. On scanning my air ticket, the machine made a weird noise, one that brings you to repentance of all your sins since childhood. I immediately convinced myself that either my luggage had issues or may be someone had tucked in cocaine. I convinced myself that something wrong had…

Stand to your Resolutions

15965729_10211533486235070_7632121427413868326_n

Every new year, new resolutions are set. It has come to be like a fashion that everyone should have the resolutions. A long list of resolutions is made and many a times, quickly forgotten. This is because sometimes people do not take off time to think deep about these resolutions. I was invited to speak about resolutions on Urban TV where the presenter expressed concern of how resolutions seem to make meaning no more. People hardly remember them by the time they are done with April. I have realized that the topic of resolution comes up in the last week of the year and the curve falls immediately thereafter. If you asked one what a resolution is, chances are you may be surprised with what…

Ladies and gentlemen, i have a testimony

11028021_10206039752695165_643863130704949489_n

Every one has their weaknesses and strengths and i am here to testify about one weakness of mine that i have totally overcome 100%. The Dickson Mushabe you see today used to be a very #SHY guy. I had never imagined addressing more than 5 people, just a thought of that would make my heart pump, i would sweat, and sweat and eventually give up, or give an excuse. I recall the moment i was called to address a campaign rally for the Mayor of University Hall- Makerere University, remember i was unopposed with basically nothing to lose but the devil had assured me how i could not campaign or even say thank you to the the UH members for electing me unopposed. What did…
